A sense of security leads to more dangerous driving, great example is on crotch rockets. More gear usually means more speed and confidence.

I remember the website Ride to Die before it was banned. Lots of wonderful pics of riders who crashed without gear. Flesh peeled off to the bone were the best for those new riders who thought shorts and runners were cool man.
