I found some shocking evidence that having explosive devices propel a canvas sack into your face at 200 mph may not be safe.

Timing is critical with airbags. Too late of deployment -> death, passenger takes the force of the explosion in addition to the impact force. Too early of deployment -> also death, airbag is already too deflated to cushion blow.

This timing is so critical, that it is expected and assumed that the driver and passengers are wearing seatbelts to help retard forward momentum. Not wearing one will cause the "deployed too late senario".

From the UGA article you posted

Airbags, however, cause no statistical difference in car-crash deaths, except for occupants who don’t wear seat belts at low speeds, where the odds of death are estimated to be more than four times higher with an airbag than without.

estimated

Neither seat belts or air bags change the statistics. It is to give scared people a sense of security, keeps insurance companies in business, and pays for cops to waste your time and taxes on hiding somewhere to pull you over for no seatbelt.

A sense of security leads to more dangerous driving, great example is on crotch rockets. More gear usually means more speed and confidence.

I remember the website Ride to Die before it was banned. Lots of wonderful pics of riders who crashed without gear. Flesh peeled off to the bone were the best for those new riders who thought shorts and runners were cool man.

You are retarded if you think seatbelts are a false sense of security. Roll a truck doing 80 not wearing a seatbelt and walk away. You won't.

Seriously that was the dumbest thing I've read in a while.

Roll a truck doing 80

Have but it was a car and we endowed... Worst case senario isn't the defacto because it happened to you one time.

Holy fuck, that quote. Why would I ever have them enabled? You saved me a trip for that recall notice to have them replaced.

Airbags, however, cause no statistical difference in car-crash deaths

So they are at best useless.

Safe and effective is everywhere.

But is it reasonable to conclude that airbags cause death only at very low speeds? It seems more likely that they also cause deaths at high speeds, but these are attributed to the crash.

Airbags save lives because if you die it was the crash. The public health dickheads seem to be hazardous incompetents until you start seeing it everywhere, almost like they want to increase death at every margin.

Having totaled 7 vehicles in my lifetime. You are all fucking retarded. Seatbelts will save your life, you are absolutely dumb to think otherwise. Airbags will help save your face on a forward collision, and side airbags are a godsend in a t-bone collision. All of you are so ignorant on this I have no idea why anyone would ever open their mouths about it when they know jack shit.

Slow the fuck down, ya god damned idiot. You almost killed yourself and a family of 4 passing me 2 miles ago and for what? Here we are at a red light a few minutes later and you're 1 car length ahead of me. If you keep driving like this, mark my words, you're going to end up totaling that piece of shit you drive.

I don't disagree with you. I don't pass on those roads, I've long learned my lesson on that. I take what the road gives me now. That wasn't always the case though. I've slowed down now with the experience of some hard lessons. One of which is that seatbelts absolutely save lives.

I never said seatbelts don't help. Did you know they have overhead airbags now? Someone is gonna get their neck snapped by one, just wait.

The one I like to see are the people with their feet on the dash, it takes one stupid animal to run out in the road and your legs will be getting bent into a direction they were never supposed to bend.

I've got my SRS fuse removed (my vehicle is one that has the recall out, haven't taken it in).

[–] 2 pts

That's because they no longer use the "Jiffy-Pop" airbags.

A bunch are probably from idiot women driving with their chins almost touching the steering wheel.

Reminded me of this: https://pic8.co/sh/O5KCWA.jpg

[–] 1 pt

Well there's that and also to jack up the price of all vehicles...

[–] 1 pt

No, they are also there to total your car because the airbags went off and it costs thousands of dollars for new ones, when the car could have been saved without airbags.
