Way too old for the draft. I'd advise youngins to stay away, though.
Me and my father always butted heads about this when I refused to serve like him and we'd argue about it. If I brought up how it fights countries for all of the wrong reasons and mentioned Patton and his infamous quote, he'd become enraged.
My father was based before that was a thing. He was drafted just like every man his age and he told me and my brothers that if we thought we'd be fighting for freedom by enlisting, we were kidding ourselves. He never named the jew but he'd say we'd just be sent off to die for corporate profits and corrupt politicians.
His father served with Norway/Germany in WW2 and died fairly young afterwards. When he grew up I think he enlisted in the US army because he was ashamed. When I sided more with his father he would get extremely angry.
Your father was definitely based before his time like you said.
