It is very hard for me to trust anyone anymore. Many of them seem to have some sort of selective amnesia, like they are completely incapable of remembering how they acted or what they did. If you bring it up to them, they refuse to acknowledge it, or rapidly change the subject, or try to act like you are misremembering things, or you are weird for dwelling on it.
Have you had any specific interactions you would feel comfortable talking about?
This is the behavior of a narcissist trying to avoid conversation subjects that threaten the false view they hold of themselves.
these people are not objective. everything they do is an act of self preservation, reputation defense, etc. and they think everyone is like this, or at least the majority of the powerful, so they refuse to change (without signal from their leader)
I think some do it out of idiocy, and some do it out of conspiracy.
