edit: As I didn't answer the question: between 5 and 11 usually. Sleep has been very difficult for me for my whole life, partly due to an extremely active mind.

Instead of awake for 16 and sleep for 8 as seems normal for most, I'm generally awake for ~20 and then sleep for ~8.

That 8 sometimes decreases to between ~5 hours on the low end and ~11 hours on the high end (fewer than 8 if I wake up as I won't be able to fall back asleep, but more than 8 if I manage to stay asleep without interruption).

My nephew takes melatonin every day to go to sleep. Anyone thinking of taking it, it's a bad idea. Your body produces it naturally, but "supplementing" orally causes your body to produce less natural melatonin over time until it barely produces much or any at all. Eventually it makes you reliant upon the "supplement" as the body stops producing it entirely or almost entirely. Your body will also not start producing the normal amount again if you were to stop taking the "supplement".

It's like those "artificial tears" which actually cause the tear ducts to stop producing tears, so you are replacing your natural bodily function with an artificial (((big pharma))) version.

Like almost all things medical-related, they make you a life-long customer since it broke your natural system and was replaced with (((theirs))).
