He HATED Christians. He was waaaay up on the Jew food chain. Then after his conversion on the road to Damascus he turned away from all of it to follow Jesus and his teachings. He methodically broke down his own beliefs and preconceptions and rebuilt them based on faith and grace, discarding his entire history as a man of the law. And he did so at his own peril, with no apparent gain.
