We had a family tale about Indian heritage that I heard all the time growing up. I did some research and it turned out not to be true. Then when Elizabeth Warren's BS blew up in the news I would mock my cousins about it, telling them it was a good thing they never ran for office and claimed to be something they're not.

In any event, there are resources that the various tribes offer to help you dig into it. They're happy to help.
Well over here we are pretty damn sure, but the way we got the ancestry was a slavery thing. So its pretty fucked up and thats why the records are so hard to find.

I kind of gave up on the hope of having the free time to research it and ain't no way I'm giving them DNA companies my genome. I've got some physical traits though so that is at least some kind of indicator.
