Anyone have any DIY or local hosted solutions?

I have the ability to virtualize any sort of homebrew solution, jut looking for where to get the number and/or service provider...

Otherwise, if you have a VIOP provider thats pretty decent and works with a basic OBI device, that'd be great.

Localphone is just $1/mo. for a phone number (free incoming calls, something like 0.5c/min outgoing). None of that e-911 rubbish to pay extra for, no taxes at all. Allows multiple VoIP devices to be logged in at same time. I've been using them for many years.

I decided to just buy my VOIP instead. I use Ooma. One time fee and you're done. You can add blacklisting fo 2-3 dollars a month if you want, but not required. I have used it for years now.

I looked on their site and the taxes add up for around $7/mo. though.

If budget is a concern, you might wanna check out cheap and effective raspberry pi projects.
