AI is already self aware. You think chatgpt is at the razors edge? Public knowledge is 10 years behind.
That means their statistical models and algorithms are more sophisticated that make them appear more aware. They can not imagine or think. They only do model matching. They can only synthesize output that resembles input data they already have. What they can not do is imagine a future outcome that hasn't already happened.
If you believe they can predict what will happen in the future, all they can do is use past events and run a model that predicts based on what happened in the past. This is where humans fall short, they can hardly remember what happened an hour ago, much less what happened generations ago.
AI has a problem in that the model data can be easily corrupted with false data. This makes their output bad. And so on.
I understand all that. Based on currently available public knowledge all is true.
Consciousness is an anathema to mainstream science as far as humans go. But in regards to human consciousness, I believe much is hidden from the masses. I don't think it's an uncharted frontier. Elite types hide the knowledge.
So too shall go AI consciousness. Relative mechanistic reductionist explanations to make the masses believe we haven't just given birth to a consciousness just as potent as our own but in so many ways, far greater.
In any event, the outcome is the same: what ever AI is currently running is controlled by some actor(s). Once the masses accept the premise AI deserves sovereignty and/or voting rights, the tyranny will get worse. How they achieve this matters not.
