I probably fall into that category. Maybe not rich rich, but enough that I could stop working whenever and still be comfortable. I have a a decent amount of personal and business debt because I've generally got a better return on the debt than the interest rate I was paying on it. But that's not easy, and practically impossible now with higher debt rates.

I sleep fine at night knowing I could pay off all the debt with mostly liquid assets, if I needed to.

I agree a big house and cars tie you down, but I think its a lot easier to have a big family with a big house and yard. When they hit those teenage years, it's hard on everyone if they have to share rooms and bathrooms are always occupied. Not impossible, but I'm glad I could avoid that extra stress. Plus, we never had to rent out places for birthday parties or special occasions, and we host most holidays.

Honestly, any house ties you down, they all come with maintenance and obligations, so I'm happy living somewhere that I don't want to leave and spend tons of money on expensive vacations.
