These rules, the introduction and the NSFW ones, were put into place because when something interesting happens, or is about to happen, old accounts that have participated very little (or not at all) suddenly show up.
The introduction requirement is a simple test to see if the account is a bot. No introduction, no participation. Even if a person participated a little two years ago when they signed up, it takes little effort to get to the bypass level of 6. Some actual participators that simply wandered away and came back because they remembered Poal was here are going to get caught in the net, but letting an account age in the background is a common tactic on other forums. It's a simple test, but it's not a perfect one.
The NSFW thing was said to be because some of these sleeper accounts seem to want to collect this data. The amount of hollering about said NSFW restriction seems to prove the point, because there's nothing really under that tag that's so intriguing that you can't live without it. A lot of NSFW is just shitposting because certain subs enforce the tag.
But with your case, I don't understand the problem. That you're posting somewhere other than introduction seems to indicate you've bypassed the restriction of posting. Have you tried posting other stuff to build up your level? You're almost to 6, which should grant you free run of the board.
I guess it is kind of a bug that an intro post can be flared as NSFW and thus be invisible to the new user that just posted it. I think that is a legitimate complaint that should be fixed.
Unless I'm misinterpreting how the system works.
It probably should be grayed out, but that may not be possible due to how the site's code works. AOU would be the person to answer that.
That being said, I feel like you shouldn't be poking buttons you're not sure about, but doubly so when one is labeled with a tag that you know is problematic.
Unless I'm misinterpreting how the system works.
You are.
It’s done on purpose and spammers fall for it thinking a post tagged as NSFW will attract more audience.
That makes sense. I was just thinking about it from a general UX perspective. I don't deal with spammers in my line of work so I jumped right to bug.
Same thing happened to me. Picked NSFW for fun, couldn’t reply to my own post. Dysfunctional.
You’re a liar. You can reply in your PM (Comments and Posts replies).
I do hope to contribute and level up. My only argument about the NSFW content is I really enjoy the 4Chan posts. That is a sub I have followed since I first joined. I hate seeing a new post and not being able to view it.
You're almost to the point where you can view those. Just sit back and understand that if you want to participate, these rules aren't trying to stop you - they're necessary because there are a few who want to shit on the place.
Requiring lightly used sleeper accounts to re-introduce themselves is an AWESOME idea! Thank you for your proactive and creative solutions!
Please keep the NSFW blocking. Personally I wouldn't be upset if poal were to make the blocking stricter given the upcoming american election cycle.
I agree. A low-level account that's been dormant for a year? That's not necessarily suspicious, people come and go, but an introduction shouldn't be a problem if you want to join the community.
I love the kvetching, personally. The NSFW tags here don't hide the fundamental truths of the universe, so new accounts whining about it are amusing.
The whining seems suspicious to me.
Forcing suspicious posters to perform CAPTCHA's before publishing a post wouldn't be unwelcome either.
