Went to a mattress store. Seems a high end plush beauty rest black is like $2000-3000. They didn't really have that many brands to try. Only like 3 or 4. I'm imagining they don't sell brands that don't have a huge mark up for what you get. So I'm imaging there are brands just as good as beauty rest black plush that are a more realistic price.

Do you have any suggestions and brands to get / test for top notch mattresses and how to test them (store that tend to carry them for testing)? Thanks!

Do what we did. We tossed out five high end mattresses including two Tempur-pedics (farm house and lake house) bought cheap low end firm replacements and 3" My Pillow mattress toppers. We made the change over the course of about 2 years. Everyone loves the new beds. I've never been happier. Averaged less than $800 each. Would be way cheaper for a twin.

You can get even cheaper if you use a futon mattress instead of a traditional coil mattress.

This is the answer. You don't even need a topper, just a comforter and put the bedsheet over it.
