We were sitting around after dinner shooting the breeze, some of us half in the bag, the other some all in the bag. Uncle completely passed out...alcoholism runs in the genes.

We started playing like a truth or dare; tell the truth or take a shot of everclear, and no one wants to drink that shit, talk about puking.

So my oldest sister blurts out that mom had an affair with a traveling salesman (we had those in those days) for like six months. We were all laughing, you know, like embarrassed laughing but as we were laughing we started noticing and thinking how he never looked like any of us- we used to tease him when we were little and shit.

After all these years my sister was the only one that ever knew. My brother actually started crying saying he was humiliated and embarrassed; said he always wondered why he didn't look like any of us and dad was always beating the shit out of him.

Now I'm afraid he's going to do something stupid. I told him it didn't matter, he's our mom's kid and still our big bro. What else should I do or say?

He may just need some time to process it, if possible. That's quite the revelation to experience, especially if dad was beating him over it.

He needs to talk to mom too, if she's still around. She owes him answers.

Legally, if your mom and dad were married, any issue (children) are legitimate. Even if your dad was cuckholded into raising a child that wasn't his.

P.S. I have the exact situation with a sister in my family. I told her husband what I knew and we decided it was better with her frail drug-demented mind not to tell her. It would definitely push her over the edge.

P.P.S. There is no such thing as an illegitimate child. Only illegitimate adults.

I understand that, kids shouldn't be label as illegitimate- I don't think they are called that anymore. Heck, back in the day they were referred to as bastards and barred from all sorts of social advancement.

Confront Mom, confront and pressure the dog shit out of her and the older sister. One must come clean. Get the truth. The truth matters above all. Do it before Mom dies. There should be no doubts. Threaten DNA testing. Do testing regardless of answers given. Father's legacy must be known, if he was wronged it should be known. Patriarchal lineage takes precedence over mother's lies. Woman are historically liars for parental lineage. Know the truth. It will come out in the end with anyone down the line that tests it. Better to have it now than have the shame of it being a secret. Don't let someone die thinking they hid the truth only to suffer the afterlife when it is far better for their soul to atone for the sin while alive and ask for forgiveness.

Mom mother is not a whore, she just made a bad choice. My dad always used to beat the living shit out of her in front of us and yeah, she tried to escape that but he always threatened to kill her.

As far as mom's afterlife, it's between her and God.

You don't know for sure until someone gets genetically tested. Obviously those services are dangerous.

Personally, I would "threaten" to get them for the whole family in front of your mother just to see her reaction. Or pretend to have gotten it and "found out". She owes your brother and entire family a very big apology.

My sister is one of those people that can read you like a book. Plus she knew mom avoided having sex with my dad at all costs because he was abusive.
