laptop uses 30 watts idle, 60 max, desktop uses 250 idle not counting my tv or hi-fi speakers. just browing text pages, or watching videos my laptop is easier on my electric bill. my 55" tv i use as a monitor for that desktop also heats up the room by ~5 degrees F. works great in the winter!
