What you need is an image remixer.
You draw your own half assed version and have it remix it over and over until you get something you like.
Imagine is on Android. Pirate Diffusion is web based. You can also install your own.

Bing chat, set it to creative, ask for a picture. Be very detailed. It will provide 4 results. It will refuse to make the same thing again for a bit, so that's why you want to be detailed.

Adobe photoshop has an interesting AI integration tool...if you are producing a kid's book, it might be more streamline to get an adobe subscription temp to complete and have access to commonly used exports for production.
