Our annual 2-week vacation is coming up. Over the past few years we've stayed in or travelled through Santa Claus (Indiana,) Future City (Illinois,) Picher (Oklahoma,) Louisiana (Missouri,) Liberal (Kansas,) St. Joseph (Missouri)

We'll end up near Salida CO, and are looking forward to taking our jeep this year to do some exploring around tin cup pass in St Elmo CO. (2017 wrangler sport unlimited)

We'll stop near Abilene KS for a day or 2 on the way out to visit friends, but our plans are wide open otherwise.

We take back roads whenever possible, and love visiting some less-well-know sites on the way.

We're open for suggestions... like these places we've stopped at over the past 2 years:

Superfund site in Picher, psychiatric hospital/ museum/prison in St. Jo, Dorothy's House/museum in Liberal, Santa Claus museum (and post office, amusement park, Santa's village hotel) Buffalo Farm in Longford KS (unfortunately Ray Smith passed away, but we did pet a zebra there, and scratched our names in the sandstone ridge nearby) Got fingerprinted in Monroe City MO, An amazing steak house in Buena Vista CO (Quincy's. Go there. Fucking amazing steaks!)

Keep em coming! I'm at work so can't reply quickly (hell can't even get on poal, the network has it blocked.) But I am checking suggested places... thanks everyone!

Can’t go wrong with Tincup but I think part of the pass is closed right now. Should be able to get to the top from the eastern side, but reaching Tincup might not be possible due to a river crossing that is impassable as of a couple days ago. Make sure to check weather/road reports. I have had pretty good luck with On X Off-road app for maps and trail conditions. But plenty of trails and what not in the area to explore. St Elmo is kinda touristy for my blood, but it’s worth stopping through if you haven’t been. Monarch crest near Salida is supposed to be awesome if you like mountain biking/hiking. Manitou springs/old Colorado city is a cool place to check out, again a bit touristy but you’ll be a tourist so enjoy! Check out old stage road which will take you up to Victor Colorado from Colorado Springs. Salida has river surfing which I’ve heard is a good time.

Thanks for the suggestions! Some friends are camp hosts at twin lakes, so we hang out around that area quite a bit when we get there. We've been to St Elmo 2 years in a row, my wife loves the chipmunks and the hummingbirds. Thx for the heads up on tincup pass poss being closed, I'll be sure to check out the reports.
