Outstanding clarification, and you’re totally right, the sleepers need to wake the fuck up. I can’t do it, I’ve tried enough and my words always go unheard, this movie is great for our work.
We each play or have played some part. Even though you may feel your words went unheard, they didn’t. At worst, you planted a seed and then that seed is watered over time by others, including the makers of this movie. It’s frustrating because it can take time and you personally may or may not ever see the fruits of the seeds you’ve planted..but it doesn’t mean that they can’t or won’t ever grow to maturity.
I often think about the long road of my own awakening. Took probably a decade for me. Along the way were people like you (and people like me now). Each one of them chiseling away at my preconceived or otherwise “more comfortable” notions of how things are, one small piece at a time. A little here, a little there. And then finally one day I realized that they had been more or less correct the entire time.
We have to manage our own expectations, which is difficult. I use to think that if I just had someone’s undivided attention for an hour or two, I could wake them. It doesn’t typically work like that.
My brother pointed something out to me once that I try to keep in mind. He asked once, “when was the last time you changed your mind about a strongly held belief that you had.” I thought about it and answered him. He then asked, “and how long did it take you to to come to that point?”
