Mine happened in a pub in Patley Bridge Yorks when I was 16, I am 60 now, it was this:

When your piss runs clear you have had enough to drink.

This little gem of knowledge was shared with me by some seriously old gaffer, yeah "gaffer", an ancient old farmer looked just like Sam Gamgees' dad. I remember the event to this day, and sometimes when I am drinking I remember it, and damn if it isn't true. If I start to drink and get to the point of just feeling "happy" and coincidentally have to piss, well,,,, fuck me freddy, my piss runs clear.

The old gaffer is long gone, but it's funny how immortality works, his phrase lives on in me and therefore he is still "alive" even if it is only in memory.

3/7/2023 After reading the answers I have had so far, I feel the majority don't quite understand the meaning of the word "profound"

"We all do what we really want to do".

From some old Italian lady. It helped me stop guessing at what people actually wanted. Especially helpful as a youngin trying to negotiate the social landscape.

i was once told "all men are horny dogs but some are loyal" and it made me think. though i dont really like comparing humans to animals

Throw a girl in the middle of a bunch of BFF guys around 20 something and they'll gradually start turning on each others, their personality will switch, like you crack a nasty joke, as usual, and suddenly it's like nobody knows you anymore, unless the girl starts laughing... Then they laugh...

Dogs

lol that reminds me of a southpark episode where the guys start hitting puberty all at the same time and start fighting over the woman in their class

It's exactly that, it's real

It was suggested to me that, in addition to whichever other post secondary education I pursue, that I should learn a trade in order to have some marketable skills to fall back on if / when things got tough.

Good advice !

“It’s not what baggage you carry, it’s how you carry it.”

We all have baggage, some find a way to make the best of things and decide to be as positive as possible, others use it as an excuse to act out/be woke.

I’m oversimplifying it, but if anyone understands what I mean it’s most people here.

"Ignore whatever advice your mother gave you."

This is only partially true. Kids often ask advice for their mothers regarding female courtship.

A lion does not ask the zebra how does one hunt it.

When Dad said..."Turn Off them damn nigger shows!"

Looking back on those old shows, he was right. White characters were stupid or evil. niggers were funny, good and cool all at the same time.

In this thread, nobody knows what "profound" means.

If someone perceives there is a problem, regardless if there is a problem, you have a problem.

Fear people as equally as they fear you regardless of if their fear is sound

When you marry a girl you are not just marrying her, but her whole family. Didn't get it at first until I started getting dragged into all of their drama and becoming their personal bank for loans.

My grandpa told me "When I started working, all I cared about was survival. While the other guys spent all their money on booze and women, I would buy a couple steak and a lot of tools. Chop down trees for firewood, help others with things they were unable to do themselves."

Before he passed away, he owned 500 acres of land, which he rented out to farmers and cattle ranchers. He also had 3 workshops full of tools, tractors, trucks. He could make, break and fix anything.

I was also told by my mom,: "You'll never be half as smart as you grandpa." Been trying to prove her wrong. 20 years later, she's still right.
