I'm staying at my father's house for a little bit and he likes to feed the finches. But Finch food is $15 for a 7 lb bag. It's a complete rip-off. To me it just looks like there's sunflower seeds in there that are kind of shredded. I wonder if I could just get a big thing of sunflower seeds and put them in a blender and let the blender just puree the stuff. That's probably not how it works however? For any of you lads and lasses that feed your finches what do you do to get around the cartel prices?

Finches will generally eat any seed food, try to avoid lots of corn and go more for things like grass seeds, millet, etc.

If you're trying to attract goldfinches specifically, they like thistle seed and thistle plants.

trying to attract goldfinches

Is this whole bird persona a sexual thing for you?

I'm not the one trying to attract goldfinches.

That's it, they are the gold ones. It's ridiculous how much the seed is. I'd love to find a way to buy it in bulk.

You could potentially plant an area with thistle to try and attract them. They use the material for nests and eat the seeds.

There is this amazing new invention called "plants" that you can "grow" that produce these things called "seeds", or so I've heard.

Maybe you should try that?

Right now, until the 31st, Ace has on sale, 2 20 pound bags of generic bird seed for $20. I have several different types of Finch's around here, they all eat it. Sale ends tomorrow. $10 bucks for 20 pounds is pretty good.

I'll have to call them and ask. Dang, I wish I had sent this post earlier because I was just down the road from Ace today buying mulch.

Best way is to grow flowers like echinacea, amaranth, and so on, natural bird feeders.

If they're shade flowers I'm all about it. There's 40 years worth of shade trees that when we were young my father planted here now they completely encased the house. Makes it awesome here in the summer but not so good if you like flowers.

Remove feathers, head, and entrails. Cook on 350 for maybe 20 min. Garnish as desired.

You really don't want to.

Sure it starts off nice with croissants and long loaves of bread, but soon it turns into some kind of foul soup with cheese and onions and the next thing you know, you're eating hot snails with a fancy name.

Oh... Finch. Nevermind.

Find your local farm supply store. Rural King, Tractor Supply, etc. They'll have 40 or 50 pound bags of generic bird seeds. You could get 40 or 50 pound bags of sunflower seeds and mix up your own feed with that as you go. Idk which birds eat what seeds/grains, but you could probably have some luck with a cheap scratch grain, too. (40 or 50 pounds, can't recall which, some stores/brands are different, but they'll have them.) Pretty sure the Rural King in my area let's folks purchase some feeds by the pound, so there's that way, too. Good luck with your birds!

Is their meat any good? I enjoy bird meat but only certain types. I can't eat pigeon for example.

They're like 2 inches tall. They just have a cool yellow look.
