Be cautious of what info you put out there, both IRL and online.
Ex: If you post to a city-specific sub, a hobby-specific sub, and mention your career and age throughout your comment history, some sleuthing on facebook, linkedin or the like might be able to locate you pretty quickly (assuming you're on those sites or you have a business website with your info).
Ex 2: Dudebro I met IRL said he was asking all about x on r/personalfinance. I'm not ashamed to say I tried to look him up just to see if I could (I couldn't, but man would I have learned a lot about him).
Use different usernames across different sites. If you do inadvertently dox yourself on one, they won't be able to find the others so easily. (HT stonetear)
If you slip up, don't be so attached to your account/username that you can't bail on it. Maybe dudebro did when he realized his mistake who knows.
HT = Hat tip
Stonetear is a rather hilarious example of why you shouldn't carry your username across sites. https://archive.is/0UB33 https://archive.is/H0D8k
