Do not share private/personal informations with strangers, especially if drunk/high.

use a VPN and they can't grab your real IP which could potentially be used to trace you

Don't makes posts about your local area.

Don't show your face.

Don't register your birthday.

Use a different name/pseudonym, password and email for every website you use.

Register whois protection if you buy a domain name. Check if the domain allows whois protection before buying it (.us does not allow you to hide your info).

Use Tor browser and/or VPN when possible.

Be cautious of what info you put out there, both IRL and online.

Ex: If you post to a city-specific sub, a hobby-specific sub, and mention your career and age throughout your comment history, some sleuthing on facebook, linkedin or the like might be able to locate you pretty quickly (assuming you're on those sites or you have a business website with your info).

Ex 2: Dudebro I met IRL said he was asking all about x on r/personalfinance. I'm not ashamed to say I tried to look him up just to see if I could (I couldn't, but man would I have learned a lot about him).

Use different usernames across different sites. If you do inadvertently dox yourself on one, they won't be able to find the others so easily. (HT stonetear)

If you slip up, don't be so attached to your account/username that you can't bail on it. Maybe dudebro did when he realized his mistake who knows.

HT = Hat tip

Stonetear is a rather hilarious example of why you shouldn't carry your username across sites. https://archive.is/0UB33 https://archive.is/H0D8k

Tor browser. Proxy. I've been doxxed and frankly don't care. I don't use anything these are just what I've been told to use

How were you doxed?

I don't know how people find that information out.

It's as easy as not giving out any personal information or linking yourself to personal information (i.e. using a nickname that you use on social media/etc.)

IMO, it’s easy to avoid being doxxed as long as you keep the material ambiguous enough.

I give away my state, age, general interests (never my dedicated hobbies except lifting) but that’s about it. I’ll never give away my name, current city or county, along with education. Username I could care less because it is only used on here and Voat. Good luck searching for me on Facebook, I never update it and only share relevant liberal links to show how retarded they are.

I have posted one picture of myself with a shitty beard and hat pulled halfway down my face. Also the only time I’d be in that location, which is a bathroom you would more than likely never be able to identify. Not much someone could do with. Also I only post pictures that I haven’t posted elsewhere on the internet so cross checking sites for the same pic is useless.

Also, if someone manages to doxx me I’d just own up to it anyway. What’s the worst they can do, label me as a Jew hater? People already know I lean far right with politics. No one cares, except far left marxists whom I make fun of. The worst thing you can do is back down and say your sorry. I’d go full throttle and beat down anyone who tried say my views are unsubstantiated and I hate them just cause.

Outing me would only let me roam free with my ideas because I’d jut say “hey, they’re the ones who doxxed me, why should I hide and cower like a bitch? I’m in great physical shape, I’m college educated, am an active volunteer in my community, and general upstanding citizen.” Demonizing me for my views would do nothing. I have all the checkmaks for the moral high ground. It’d be laughable for any of the degenerate losers in my area to try and beat me down.

Obfuscation. Create a couple of dozen fake personalities with detailed backstories that you can pepper around hundreds of posts. ANY time you say ANYTHING personal about yourself it's from one of those personalities.

All the other shit is obvious and ineffective. 'Muddy the waters' is always the answer to avoiding doxxing.

Be wary of small details you let through about yourself during the normal course of commenting. Once you're on their radar, they'll inspect each and every word you utter, compile a bunch of facts about you that you let slip through, and BAM. You're doxxed. Next, they're calling your employer and sending them listings of everything you've said. They're messing with your family and friends.

Thankfully this hasn't happened to me, but I know someone it has happened to.

Don't post pictures you've shared somewhere else, because people can reverse image search them even if they don't directly reveal something. Also, strip metadata from any photos you post to avoid giving out unnecessary information.
