This was mine: https://pic8.co/sh/S0Cmdb.jpeg

I got it the summer before senior year. When I didn’t have sports practice, I was washing dishes in a bakery and selling women’s shoes (Can I get a woah Bundy?!) I put around $500 towards it and paid my own insurance. Living in a nigger city, I remember insurance was expensive and hard to pay when sports were in season so my parents would pick up the tab for me.

It was large but not as large as the car my dad really wanted to get me. That car was a 70’s garage-kept Towncar with no miles on it. It was mint but it was so fucking huge I was scared to drive it.

My Delta 88 was a piece of shit but I had some wheels. The trunk leaked which made the car always smell like mildew. A buddy on the football team got one too and his ran so much better than mine. We would “race” in the parking lot after practice and he would smoke me every time. The a/c only blew out the bottom which was rough when it was 95 degrees outside.

I made gas money by bring home team members. I had plenty room.

The large room of the front and back seats meant lots of room for sinning with my whore girlfriend (cheated on me in college). It got to a point when I could only start it after spraying a bunch of carb cleaner.

Someone stole the spoked hubcaps. One time I almost caught it on fire because, knowing nothing about car audio installation, I hooked up an amp with the power wire partially exposed outside the car and in through the driver door. The next morning, as I’m walking in to school, a group of girls were yelling, “NAME, your car’s on fire!” From then on I had burn marks on the door, drivers seat, carpet…..

I only had it for a year. I was commuting to college and needed something more reliable but I’ll never forget that old hoopty and the feeling of freedom that came with having your own wheels.

So, what was your first car?

Nice try FBI

The FBI has no interest in your first car. The network, however, remembers shitting on it quite well.

Those password recovery questions can be a bitch to get around!

Q: What was your first car? A: Yourmomandhersister

Remember claiming this when they scrape this page while trying to recover your apple password in order to access your phone backups.

An old green dodge with a shit ton of miles on it. I had to keep the gas pedal pushed down at traffic lights to keep it from dying.

[–] 2 pts

Haha. I’ve definitely been there!

'66 Mustang. 289 - 3 speed. Nice car, heater wasn't worth a damn. First of three Mustangs. The next two were a '69 and a '73, both Mach 1. I wish I would have hung on to one.

[–] 1 pt

I guess if I couldn’t get an old Delta 88 i would have settled for one of those.

[–] 1 pt

I worked hard for them. Helped on the family farm, plus jobs setting up farm machinery and making pizzas in the winter months. Lived at home, so no rent to pay.

I never could figure out why Ford put their distributor caps right behind the fan. When it rained the caps would get wet and the car wouldn't run until you took off the cap and dried it.

[–] 1 pt

You had to bring that up and ruin my memories.....

1967 Pontiac Catalina coupe. Stuck the pedal to the floor and she would burn rubber till the tires popped. Good times

[–] 0 pt

Good memories.

I could spin the tires on the Delta 88 but only from a cold start and only from like a 2 minute window.

The rest of the pedal pressing was to keep it from stalling.

1983 mercedes 300sd turbodiesel.

I actually drove a 60s era Buick station wagon. I can't remember specifically the year or model. I seem to recall it was an Invicta. I do remember the engine was a huge Wildcat V8. It was quite powerful, I remember that. It had electric seats and windows and climate control. These were unusual features for the time. I didn't like it as a teenager because it wasn't a cool car. I wanted a pickup truck. LOL.

Later, I was able to acquire a Datsun (Nissan today) 280Z. That was my favorite car. I sure wish Nissan would resurrect that model. I know they came out with the 300ZX, but it just didn't have the same panache.

[–] 1 pt

I had a Wildcat . It was beat to hell but still fast .

[–] 1 pt

Pardon my ignorance, but I didn’t even realize cars had air conditioners back then. You had some bells and whistles for sure.

[–] 1 pt

Thinking back at it today, it was quite advanced for its time. Unfortunately, I didn't appreciate it then.

[–] 1 pt

Same with me with the huge town car. It was loaded and pristine. I was a new driver and intimidated by it. But it was cool as hell now that I think back on it.

[–] 0 pt

They had power windows too and even cruise control on a few

[–] 1 pt

Yeah man. Gotta appreciate all the technology these negro engineers and scientist came up with.

‘63 Dodge Power Wagon Panel Truck. 4x4 383 w/push button automatic. Good times had exploring CO & WY with it. Wish I still had it.

I had to look that up. Very cool!

Lol, it was. Picked it up for a grand. Was a Rocky Mountain Nat Park truck.

It got dubbed The Magic Bus after a Bob Dylan concert in Ft Collins CO. We got there the night before. Woke up to heavy rains and told the concert was delayed until the following day. So we just stayed as did a ton of others.

Turned into one big party in that parking lot let me tell you! Drugs galore. It was on a Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas scale. We got so fuk’d up on weed, mushrooms, acid, beer and whiskey that day. Nightfall came and this guy knocks on my driver window ask’n if we want to buy any coke. I said, let’s see it and this goofball pulls a sandwich bag out of his coat pocket, let’s it unroll revealing a good two fingers of rocks and powder. Truck had a spotlight so I click’s it on to better see and this guy lets out a yelp, drops the bag in the mud and just vanishes into the darkness. The rest of the night is just a blur as you can imagine.

Morning comes and we’re all told the concert will happen rain or no rain. It was already rain’n like hell. We’re so fuk’d up we get in line to get in on the field as close as possible which we managed. Ten feet back maybe. We had a couple ponchos we took turns with as we waited and used them as a shield to get into that baggie. Soon enough an A-Rab look’n Dylan takes to the stage. Place just roared like thunder. Might have been for all I know.

Long story short, concert was filmed and put to an album called Hard Rain. Me and my buddies are all on the cover. A blurry crowd scene, but you can tell who’s who. We can be clearly seen in the film several times as well.

Oh what a weekend we had on The Magic Bus! Of the six of us, I think only two of us are still alive.

73 AMC Gremlin I remember the cars motor and tranny were surprisingly reliable and withstood the terrible abuse only a 17 year old boy could inflict on it. To the contrary , the body was beyond shoddy. Door handles would break off in your hand. The rearview mirror would always fall off. The fenders rusted out on top.

It was an ugly pos but all things considered a perfect first car for a dumbass teenager.

[–] 1 pt

Such a weird looking car. Pretty cool!

[–] 1 pt

Yeah , definitely NOT a pussy wagon , lol.

[–] 1 pt

I had one too, for a short time . Yellow.

Hard call here. Not sure how to answer this because I don't know if the criteria is cars you OWNED or owned and DROVE. I had two before I had my license. First was a VW Bug that I bought for 20 bucks when I was 15, drove around my back yard to learn the stick, sold it for 17 bucks to a friend in school. Bought a 65 Mustang rag top and flipped it for a profit. My first true driving car was one I wanted since my older brother brought one home at the beginning of the fake Energy Crisis in 74. A 70 Chevelle SS 396. His was Maroon with white stripes, black interior and 4 speed. Mine was Blue w/White stripes and saddle interior. Picked it up for Grand. You could do that back then. Muscle cars were everywhere and no one wanted them. Had it about a year till some drunk bitch decided I shouldn't have it anymore, blew a stop sign and tore it up. So I went and got another one from the original owner in 1980 also for a grand. Green Mist, Black Stripes, 396/TH 400. And before anyone gets all Cube nazi on me I KNOW it was 402. I'v twisted wrenches since I was 16. I rebuilt that bitch from asshole to appetite and back at a time when there was no Stage 1, no NOS catalogues, NOTHING. Sold it to move to NY to pursue a music career in 88 for 6k. Nice money at the time. Wish I still had it. But the Blue one will always be my favorite. Did and saw a TON of shit in that car.

That’s awesome. And a functioning learner car for $20. That’s incredible.

[–] 1 pt

Yeah. Growing up the way I did was a big advantage for me car wise. I have a brother 8 years my senior. He had his own shop for 42 years till he retired about 6 yrs ago. I came up a grease monkey just like him working for him ( not always fun) so buying and selling cars was just something you did. Also they were SO friggin easy to get. I cant tell you how many Winter Beaters I bought for peanuts. Shit like a 72 Sedan Deville loaded for 250. Buddy of mine's Winter Beater was a 76 Lincoln Town car also loaded he paid 400 bucks for. I bought and drove shit with only the carpet as a floor, shit with no heat in the Winter in New England. It seemed like every week there was another car to flip or ride the winter on. As for Muscle cars, like I said, we were tripping over them where I lived. Biggest mistake I ever made was hearing about 69 Z for sale. Im not a huge Camaro guy but went and looked at it. It was ten years old by then but still in great shape. All original with the numbers matching 302 and a 4 speed green on green, I was going to flip it. I asked my buddy what does the guy want for it?? He said 1500.00. I shot back Yeah good fuckin luck with that and walked. Who in the hell had ANY idea what this shit was going to end up being worth? I still kick myself for not just buying it and parking it. That one car could've paid off my house today.

Dude late 70s early 80s, wasn't that the greatest time to be a teenage boy ? I had a 69 Camaro with a Vette 327 motor , an AMX with a 390 4spd , a 66 Chrysler Newport with a 383 BB , it had power seats and ac . Had a 71 Torino with a 351 Cleveland. Imsmr , the most expensive one was the AMX , 1200 bucks , lol.

[–] 1 pt

It absolutely was. I often tell people I came of age in the last great time in this Country. I used to work with a bunch of millennial kids. They were talking one day about how Dazed and Confused was their favorite movie. One of the little fucks looks at me and says, You're about a hundred years old. Did you live then and was any of that shit true. I mused a second and said, well not exactly. Little punk got all smug and shit and said I knew it. I came back with, Yeah we didn't have a Top Notch so we hung at a place called Art Johnson's or Mikey D's and we didnt have a moon tower so we did our keggers in places like Cemeteries and shit like that. Otherwise the movies is pretty accurate for MY life anyway. Kid just stood there and one of his buddies said, see? I told you. I knew that shit was for real. I said, yeah fellas, being a HUNDRED years old does carry its advantages! As much as I'm still a Bow Tie guy I would've killed for a 68 or 69 AMX. I STILL love those cars

[–] 0 pt

That AMX was a blast , 390 4spd , a real screamer.

[–] 0 pt

Ha, I also had a Delta 88 as my first driving car. Technically it was my mom's but she just drove her van. I drove the car around. It had it's engine swapped out for a 350 Rocket with a four barrel carb and glass packs exhaust. That car was sweet. It was a boat, but you could do burnouts and drift it, and man did it sound good.

[–] 1 pt

Same car yet not at all the same. Yours sounded pretty sweet.

[–] 0 pt

I had an 81 Mercury Lynx. It was one of the first ones made in 1980. 5-speed, but the engine was a total piece of shit and cracked the head.
