People date for years thinking the marriage is just a piece of paper. Then when the lady goes crazy from PPD or stress or just realizes having a baby has more responsibility, and they can’t party all the time, ect, if they’re not married they’re way more likely to bail. Men too. I see women do this more than men, maybe if I had more lady friends I’d see it’s even but I think it’s worse with women. Every time I see my husband’s friends convinced they will be fine without marriage I warn them. They didn’t listen and every single one of them struggle seeing their kids. Didn’t matter how long they were together. Marriage doesn’t guarantee you’ll avoid this outcome but it seems to make it less likely. Among married people with kids I know it usually only ends in divorce in extreme circumstances. And the courts work with the dad at least a little even though they favor the mom. When you don’t get married first they don’t care about the dad at all.
