Firearms. If my thrift store wineglass breaks, I'll need to wash my clothes. If a used turkshit shotgun breaks, I'm going to eat a faceful of shrapnel.

It would be stupid to not battle test any weapon in a safe manner.

With that said it is irrational to think your particular turkshit will explode when there are tens of thousands being used and not exploding.

How does one test a firearm in a safe manner?

[–] 8 pts

Tie a string to the trigger and a door knob then throw it as hard as you can like a javelin.

No idea how to do it 'right', but this is how I did it:

Once, I purchased a ~70 year old mil surplus rifle along with 40 year old mil surplus ammo. (Mosin–Nagant Carbine)

My test methodology:

  1. Full disassembly (removed the furniture, etc.)
  2. Spent an hour inspecting the steel with a light and a magnifying glass, mostly looking for any visible stress fractures in the barrel.
  3. Held it at arms length (no cheek weld) and fired it. (Figured I might lose a hand, but it would be my off hand and I could live with that.)
  4. Repeat for a half dozen more rounds.
  5. Cleaned and reinspected.

These guns are robust and likely this was overkill (and the Russkies did well when they packed it away with Cosmoline), but hey ... my time and my skin.

Spent a year in Turkey training young askerlik. They were more likely to die from shrapnel from a defective weapon than anything else. This is from a situation where the cadre would hose down the battalion in -20c weather.

[–] 1 pt

Stay away from the Turkish ammo while you are at it.

What about Turkish shotguns?

[–] 0 pt

is exactly where they belong

I have a Davison autoloader (Turkish copy of the Benelli inertia system) I bought it because, cheap, and I wanted to see if i wanted to go inertia, or stay gas (I have a Franchi Italian gas gun) A few things I learned, I need to hold an inertia gun tighter to my shoulder, as it is so fast that it will shoot doubles with the recoil, the recoil is much more than a gas gun and the Turkish copy works. It does not have the finish of the Franchi, but it hasn't let me down. I may still get the Benelli for upland, but I'll continue to use the Davidson for waterfowl, as dropping a 300 dollar shotgun in the muck accidentally hurts a lot less.

I gladly pay a high price for something that I plan to use indefinitely or daily.

Good shoes, A good bed, durable clothes, tools especially.

But if it's something temporary like food, or any subscription service, or something cheap from china hell no. I'll pay triple for a good thing that will last decades than something I might think will break in a year or two.

i spend an inordinate amount of time surfing online for clearance / stock sales for a particular store i buy from. Right now wearing ($300 runners, $200 cargos, $140 denim collar shirt, $120 merino t shirt, with a $300 faggot puffer jacket over the chair that i paid $230 clearance price for all. Havent paid full retail for clothing in over 5-10 years.

EDIT: Prob only clothing i pay full retail for are quality boxers or socks (if i cant get the same on clearance) lol.

I can't buy clothing online.

Most sizes these days are made for Asian school boys and manlets.

[–] 1 pt

Hah. So men's clothing is going the opposite of Womens in vanity sizing? How fucking ironic.

"Women" need sizes to be "small" when they are fucking mountains. Men need sizes to be "big" (but actually small) because they are now weak and pathetic.

For Fuck Sake. I fucking hate "current year" and clown world.

[–] 0 pt

Ah yes true that. It's why i stick with the same store and brands that i'm familar with, and have figured out their sizing.

I tend to think along these lines. Buy it for Life stuff

...something temporary like food...

Food isn't temporary. You actually are what you eat. Food quality has a very high impact on mental abilities, state of mind and emotional well-being. It also has both short term and long term effects on your physical health down to your DNA.

The food that you consume should be the number one thing that you ensure is of high quality.

Food is temporary.

Do better.

Computer parts. Sales are nice, but especially with all the mining shit on the market now, I'm willing to pay full price for a new in box brand name part that I know will last longer than the computers usable lifecycle.

I have a second gen I7 touchscreen with 12gb internal memory only thing I've swapped on it was the dead HDD to SSD.

[–] 1 pt

Yup. Every rig in my house is hand built. In almost 20 years, I think I've only had two parts (not counting fans) fail, a hard drive and a video card.

The computers outlive their operating systems.

I've worked retail for over 25 years and I almost never pay full price for anything except food I'm going to use immediately, and even then it's easy to buy in bulk or shop around for a better price. From clothes to videogames to power tools there's always a sale around the corner and most of the time I can wait.

[–] 2 pts

That is truly the one benefit of online shopping - unless you want something immediately. Any costing full retail, one can almost always find the same exact thing for at least 30-50% cheaper somewhere online.
