I have a champion generator. It's worked when I've needed it and has very little maintenance issues.

The best generator is a winco. However, Onan builds a decent gen set and so do many other brands. The best generator is diesel but they cost a small fortune. I decided to buy a 5KW gas generator because they're cheap. The reason I like diesel is because the fuel can sit for 10 years or more. Whereas gas can only last less than a year.

gas can last more than a year easily.

Yes, if you put additives in. I suppose propane lasts longer than diesel however, propane has much less energy density.

I use gas year to year with no treatment, this 3 month false info needs to die. Last I treated I used a bit over two years and expect more from it.

I have a Champion generator with synthetic oil & modified carb for alt fuels (Gas + propane & NG). No issues.

To be clear, by modified carb, I mean aftermarket carb.

why aftermarket carb?

Ilive in Commiefornia and now have four generators, as the power grid is less reliable than the one in South Africa. I have a Firman 7500W Running / 9400W Peak Tri Fuel Generator, for all the essentials in the home. I have a Champion Power Equipment 2500-Watt Ultralight Portable Dual Fuel Inverter Generator for running the extras and camping. I recommend both. I also have a Honda-EU1000IAN for camping originally, but now use the Champion. I started with a Coleman Powermate Premium Plus 5000ER, super reliable, way too loud.

I bought a cheap inverter generator. Lasted about a year of commercial use before it locked up. Dropped quite a bit of change on a nice honda inverter generator, it's the only one I'll buy now.

Inverter gens are much quieter. Propane generators are easier to store large amounts of fuel for over long terms, but they output a bit less power for the same size of gasoline engine. Honda engines seem to be among the more durable, which is why you often see them in professional work, such as you would see with professional welders.

Make sure you run the thing every couple of months for at least 20 minutes, to make sure it is working, and to keep it working. Check the oil before you start it every time, and check the air filter once a year. If you plan to run electronics on it, I would suggest you get an uninterrupted power supply to put between the generator and the computer, to protect sensitive electronics from power spikes, and dirty power. The sine wave from a home generator is prone to wider variation than grid power.

YES! I have real experience. I have been zapped many times by household current. The zap I received from my Craftsman 1200 Watt Generator was worse!!!
