Had an opportunity to topple a cairn stack of stones recently and it got me thinking about all the places I've seen hippy stacks of stones I've left alone over the years. It felt really good to grab a handful of cairnstones and fling them toward the valley.

Trail markers are different. Usually a colored blaze. Cairns are typically scenic location markers, not trail markers. They are a quick alteration of the natural landscape to arrogantly proclaim nothing more than a stacker of rocks came before you. Most conservation groups detest cairns for their graffiti like attributes.
