It's the nature of how these things work. Unfortunately most people don't have the stomach for it and prefer to just masturbate. When change of course is still possible you have too many people too comfortable to really care. Once we cross the threshold into where we are now those same people are no longer comfortable and now suddenly are interested in change but it's too late. Everything becomes too chaotic at this point and a rational, focused and reasonable solution is impossible because everyone is too fucked in the head. Rather than 40-60% of the population agreeing on the problems and solution(s). Instead you have 1% insisting bringing slavery back will fix it all, 1% insisting we need free Cheetos for everyone to fix it all, another 1% insisting we need to tax the rich, and so on. Nobody has a meaningful solution, everyone just falls into some niche clique that has a very narrow or specific idea and then they just fight and compete against other niche cliques. At some point the only person really doing anything is the Joker characters, the rioters, the people who just want to watch the world burn for no other reason. The only thing that brings me peace is that I'm all too aware how much warning people had 20, 30, 40, 50, 60 years ago. The people who will soon all be begging for help if they aren't already were all laughing in your face and trying to get you fired gor your warnings because they thought it would be funny.
