idk but fun fact, the Smokey Mountains and the Atlas mountains are thought to be the same mountain chain, split apart by the migration of the continents. Talk about plate tectonics.

I thought Yellowstone was a caldera formed by a hotspot. The coastal volcanoes in the US are formed in subduction zones when the plates go under one another. So the Pacific plate goes under the North American plate and the Pacific plate has water in it which heats up with the magma and that causes explosions and stuff. I don't know all the science behind it but that's more or less than jist.
