In the early days those guys seemed to be legitimiate vigilante blackhats. Going after government infrastructure to pressure nation-states into stopping some tyranical behavior.

I'm sure they got infiltrated and turned gay, if they were ever legit to begin with.

Anonymous was barely an organized thing before chanology in 06 when they protested scientology for web censorship and other misdeeds. The spontaneous action spooked every government in the west and they all made taskforces to investigate, eventually they started using anonymous surreptitiously for their bidding and eventually just ran psyops pretending to be anonymous, anons gave it up because the feds and moralfags ruined it.

This is all a gross simplification.

TL;DR was real, has been co-opted since around occupy wallstreet/arab spring/maidan revolution, no oldfags remain involved since about 2015, so it's all fake CIA horse shit now.

I was in the Occupy protests. I personally saw the FBI infiltration. They infiltrate and take down any movement that has any real political danger to the powers that be.

I was involved in translating certain important guides for protesters and dissidents and helping to disseminate them and information on the maidan, the turkish protests, and the arab spring,

I really regret being a part of those.

That sounds like some extending jewish behavior.

FBI arrested a bunch back in 2011. There are informants everywhere.

Always remember Ruby ridge.

Everyone they pissed off got their electronic warfare game up. Espionage and infiltration went through the roof to get them. When the Mexican cartels started dropping bodies, the writing was pretty much on the wall and it just became a false front.

that is unfortunate, though not unexpected

That's the difference between delusion and reality, I suppose. Most techies, while being tech savvy, are delusional morons. They mistook possessing greater technology knowledge for somehow being untouchable. The governments, corporations, cartels, and secret societies, who finance the development of our technology, took up arms against Anonymous quickly dispelling them of that delusion.

If you go to war against someone, don't pretend to be surprised when they actually mobilize against you.

Dude the original ones are all in their 40s now. I assume they grew up, got jobs and families and mortgages.

Yep, they knew it wasn't going to be a career. Some got arrested, others got offers from cybersecurity groups for a shit tons of money.

Infiltrated and fucked by "intelligence" agencies from the very first years

You ask TAM what happened. Oh wait, he's dead. Go figure.

They packed up and moved to the coast…the day the music died. The rest of us have officially arrived in Destination Fucked.

Some are opposition, and some good guys still make videos on youtube.

[–] 1 pt

Making videos on YouTube is now considered anon-ops? Sad.

Videos are great and all. But it seems the skilled hackers in the group were picked off

They've been successfully rounding up DDOS'ers. I used to have a friend that access to a huge DDOS network. If they can round up people for kicking off fully remote node attacks, I mean wtf they can start tracking down anonymous members eventually.

Unfortunately, when you're completely anonymous nobody has any knowledge of whether it's a bunch of glowniggers or not. You could even have a completely separate glownigger operation claiming to be the real anonymous operation. What a shitshow that would be. Would the real Anonymous please stand up? Please stand up?

Not with Public Key Infrastructure (PKI)

Look into PGP/RSA public/private key-pairs

technical computer stuff hurts my brain

TL;DR: One can create a "keypair" which has a private part and a public part. You give the public part out so others can use it to encrypt messages that only your private key can decrypt.

It has the added benefit of being a signature that is cryptographically secured (meaning, it's difficult for someone to take your public key and get your private key out of it). So if I sign a message (using my private key "ABC"), and I post it on reddit (for example) , then everyone knows the message definitely came from the same dude who owns keypair "ABC". That's the idea

I mean anyone can say they're acting on behalf of the "anonymous hacker group". Even spooks.
