There are many contactable things that can alter brain chemistry. There are many substances that have a permanent effect on brain chemistry. There are existing issues that can be triggered by external things that would not otherwise have been triggered.
It seems that a non insignificant body of evidence points to most cases of homosexuality being associated with early life molestation, for example. Calling such traumas mental illness seems accurate, since an illness is typically an adverse, potentially treatable abnormality. Brain damage carriers the nuance of being irreparable, and being something to work around rather than cure.

Yup, you're suffering from brain damage, not a mental illness.

This is an area where I can admit my point is weak but I then look at what else causes "mental illnesses" from a young age. Those namely being (((male genital mutilation))) and (((vaccines))) then add all the hormone fuckery in food, water and air and you aren't experiencing something natural that 'you have'. You're experiencing a physical and chemical attack on your body that causes physical damage. Then you set yoursel on a whole cocktail of (((mental health drugs))) whose primary effect are actual mental illnesses.
