Rural towns make up a huge chunk of the American landscape. Do you like it hot and don't mind humidity? Try the SE like Alabama. Hot but prefer dry? Try the desert SW. Don't mind the cold? Any northern state has tons of rural towns you could call home. Prefer the cold? Target Maine or Alaska. Key is to avoid cities and even suburbs, and go strictly rural.
I'm fine living in rural towns as long as there are manufacturing jobs and decent internet.
