It started out as a very minor agency. J.Edgar ( egomaniac,power hungry etc.) turned it into a monolithic monster through propaganda, phony patriotic public service ads and a monumental amount of bullshit. He amassed files on damn near every politician in the U.S. Nobody dared to cross ol’ J. Edgar. He most probably had a hand in killing JFK. His legacy is what you see today.
