I already wrote a small program that takes a live rendered 3d cube with opengl in c++, pipes the rgb data of that into ffmpeg, ffmpeg writes and constantly updates the m3u8 and the ts files for HLS (to a ram drive mount), then a rsync command under watch to constantly upload them to a public html so it can be accessed as a live video stream of the local cube rendering.

This got me the interview "however" I have never done anything with docker aside from run their 'hello world' program. I got Docker running on the machine after some kernel recompiling. Does anyone have any suggestions on what I should practice / tutorialize with docker before the interview?

Thanks!!

Edit: 10,000%'d it. Might be writing ya'lls weather channel streaming code soon.

I do not know about those things but from what i can gather, if you want a job like that then you should tell them you like to stick stuff up your ass. Good luck!

Showing up in a dress might convey the same message, but that's not the kind of answer he's looking for imo.

Make sure you know how to tag an image, pull image from dockerhub, push image and be able to run it. Syntax can always be looked up, make sure you understand the main ideas behind docker images and why theyre used. Good luck!

is this docker specific, or can you toss in K3s/K8s to mix it up? Perhaps also mention container hardening, API security and cloud spin-ups? Maybe some IaC will go a long way since IaC and virtualization (like edge computing/CDN) is the next-level goal for many org's moving from a capex model to opex, depending on their management model

My guess is it would use k8s because to me it doesn't seem to make much sense to just use single dockers? So I guess they want some cloud scalable purpose with doing HLS. Was thinking / pysching out if it was to scale up the http distribution or to parallelize the encoding or both.

then i would probably mention that your efforts could be transferable into a K8s cluster/model and managed that way as well as docker. Can you run this using an AWS VPC - I would mention this if you could since the environment is already there. and since it's a streaming service I would also include the ability to pipe to edge devices (CDN) for best effort distribution.

Do they still make those pants? : )

The internet has a plethora of info on docking and I think paulneeri narrates most of it.

man docker -- know the basic commands Dockerfile vs. Docker Compose saving a custom-built image Jews did 911

AFAIK, "DEI" is everywhere in the workplace, so pretend like includion and diversity are amazing if/when asked about them. Other than that, there are a few questions to ask:

  1. Where do you see me in this role after XX time? (xx = a couple years or more?)
  2. What opportunities are available with company to influence growth in the role?
  3. (not a question but suggestion) Don't play on inexperience, play on your eagerness to learn, willingness to do better, and especially you being a BRAND player and team member. Brand/reputation means almost everything these days.

I was part of an interview panel where the interviewee had a gay pride flag in the background. I said no, as did 3 of the other 4 interviewers. (The HR lady said yes.)

That is to say it isn't wise to inject politics into an interview. Stick with your skills and experience, and be able to tell them what you want out of the job. Also ask them why you should accept this role over others that are out there.

Also: Good luck!

Best advice so far. Always remember, you are interviewing them as well. Are these people the type you want to work for? Don't lose sight of that in the interview process.

So.......how did it go?

10,000% my man. Supposed to be a 20-30 minute call lasted until 60 and they had to leave for other calls. It basically turned into the second interview. I bunked the last 5 seconds autistically. May prayers be with!

Don't take the first offer they give you. Counter offer with things like +10% pay, extra PTO, different work hours (like 4-10s), training opportunities, etc. Just keep it reasonable and don't ask for all the things.

Well, if you want the job and they'll pay you what you feel it's worth, I hope you get it.
