In early America, Irish slaves were cross-bred with negros. This got rid of the problem of Irish Catholicism and made them easier to control. We still face the same evils today, it's just that the evils have far more advanced psychological techniques and technologies at their fingertips, and far more control everywhere. It's not something to hand-wave away. We're in trouble as an ethnic group. Big trouble.
