Search hacker news and preddit. There are plenty of guides and spreadsheets there with decent advice about VPN selection.

Or you could go crazy and boot Tails from a USB stick on your laptop from someone else's wifi.

Whatever you do, avoid any service owned by KAPE Technologies. It's Mossad. They bought out countless VPN services over the years.
