Verizon sent my dad a new flip phone because his old one was outdated for the network or some shit. I think it's the Nokia 2720. It's a flip phone but it has it's own OS and Apps. So it's more of a hybrid dumb/smart phone. The battery life is terrible and only lasts a day or so when idle. His old flip phone would go a week without charging.

I just picked it up when writing this and the stupid phone has a message locked up on the screen about notifications but there are none. It's glitching out for no reason.

Yeah so I don't recommend this model.

Personally, I switched to Boost Mobile to save money. (They just suffered a major data breach/fail of sorts but that's another topic) Boost has 2 flip phones available for cheap. May wanna check reviews of those models.

Tello is very cheap if you don't need a lot of data (bring your own T-Mobile-compatible phone). $5/mo. for 100 minutes a mo. You can add more minutes etc. per dollar more a month. I pay $5/mo. for 0.5GB of data, no minutes (and use Google Voice for phone calls, usually on WiFi so free).
