I have a remote IT job, more helpdesky than coding but it's 100k and I live on a tiny island away from everything.

I'd suggest focusing on front end development rather than backend or full stack. It's a bit easier to get a job if you're self taught when you have a portfolio of pretty things to show off.

I recommend udemy.com for coding courses too.
