Looking for recommendations as I need to beef up security. I have used amcrest which isn't too bad as long as it is kept to no-internet subnet or whatever, like most security cams/systems should be.

Every single IP cam has a backdoor.

You can easily build a connected/safe one with a pi zero.

Thats why you dont connect the cameras to the rest of your network. Dont need internet for a security system. Also stay away from anything off amazon. This is the brand of equipment we install for business.

I thought about that - the solution I have now is to block all traffic on the LAN they're set to, but yeah, I am sure no matter what I do, there's a door.

Not if you install yourself a pi zero with a cam, install Bullseye (Debian 11), and set yourself custom IP table rules.

Good plan, you have to have a webserver on the pi with that to be able to remotely see your cameras. Seeing your cameras from one location only when home is not practical. That webserver then by nature will be a "hole" . I'm looking for a solution myself so I appreciate the knowledge and links.

renogy but I haven't used the cameras... the rest of their products are solid in my experience
