I have an eternal-september account, there are some amazingly active portions. Raspberry Pi, CP/M, Tandy, Nethack....

A lot of it has been overrun with spammers many years ago, but I still get useful stuff from a number of different areas.

Years ago my Internet provider got hostile about hosting Usenet sites that offered movies, because they claimed it took up too much bandwidth, so I stopped being interested in Usenet. Around about the same time, Pirate Bay came into being, and for a time all was right with the world.
