I think the new movie was great, excellent set of actors doing a phenomenal job, at least until the part where Zendaya shows up. She's clearly a diversity hire that can't play the role of Chani at all. It's like they took the "angsty teenager Mary Jane" from the Spiderman movies and just dumped her on Dune. Her Mary Jane was also terrible, so I think she literally can't act and directors are just forced to rework the movie around her.

They lost me when they replaced Dr. Kynes with the nigger.

[–] 1 pt

It sucked. Not only the shit you mention, but they made it that long and still didn’t include any more than Lynch, less if you count the exclusion of Feyd. And the Harkonnen fucking world’s most boring white supremacy meeting. Timothee Chalamet is such a fucking priss gender fluid pedowood faggot i hate that they made him Paul. At least he’ll get to be spoiler alert

Responsible for the worst genocide in human history, the twat. Nobody ever gets the fremen right. And taking away the blue on blue eyes, like they couldnt even stand a whiff of fucking whiteness in there. Fuck them all. Read the books.

The David Lynch version is the only Dune movie worth watching. Allow me to suggest the Alternative Edition Redux Fan Edit.

This.

Though it really does help to have read the book are at least know something of the lore and universe. IMOHO, this lacking information is why it flopped when it came out. As people didn't know what to think about it and knew nothing of the lore or what was supposed to be going on.

Thanks for recommending this version. I had a chance to sit down and watch it and it's a very good watch.

Is that Lynch endorsed?

[–] 1 pt

Definitely not. Lynch pretty much disowned Dune in all its forms, going so far as to remove his name entirely from some extended cuts. It's still worth watching though.

On review of this fan edit, seems like the studio ruined his version

Thanks, watched this movie probably 8 times and never knew about this edit.

I’ll check that out but i am dubious. Lynch Dune has a lot of non-canonic elements, though i love much of it. I though SyFy did the best job, even on a lower budget. Lots of nice touches—the party at the palace, the greenhouse, atreides battle language. And they do a pretty good job going up through Children as well. James Mcaviy is well cast as Leto II, I’d love to see him get a crack at God Emperor.

Book.

You actually need toread the books and THEN watch BOTH, Lynch before Hollyweird

and then for a complete mind fuck-------Jodorowskys version of "what might have been"

[–] 1 pt

No movie can capture it and will only ruin the book reading experience. Read it first!

[–] 1 pt

yes the david lynch version is worth it. yes it is worthwhile to read the book.

the lynch version follows the book almost too closely... except for

Getting the book digitally is extremely easy and very cheap.

The Lynch version is great but, there is a large amount of narration that turns many people off. It doesn't bother me as it was all really interesting and provided a lot of details that the new movie missed out on. The new film hardly touches the importance of Mentats, the Butlerian Jihad, doesn't show the full depravity of the Barron, and hardly touches the Emperor or the Space Guild.

Also, the new film director has openly said they are going out of their way to focus the story more on the woman. The books and previous film was the story of the prince for the firsts few books. His desert concubine was not a bad ass, nor as important as they are playing her out to be in the new films. IMO. They even turned an important white, male character into a sheboon.

I would say watch the old film and then check our the youtuber Quinn's Ideas for the full book synapses. That white-washed, nerdy, nig-nog does a great job.

New one left out guild navigators. Get the feeling (((they))) represent something

Lynch's Dune... either hypmotized me, or is the only film I fell asleep in the theater and just considered it part of the film. I woke up on Arrakis in a spice haze.

Get the books.

All 6?

[–] 0 pt

At the very least, all six written by Frank Herbert. You don't get his full vision from them because he died before finishing everything, but his son and another author fleshed out most of the rest.

They also went full on capitalizing on the fandom to publish crappy graphic novels and a few SJW-ish books.

If you'd like to go down the rabbit hole,

[–] 1 pt

That wasn't his faggot son was it?

[–] 0 pt

NOOOOO. The sequels are a complete hoax. You can look it up if jacurutu.com is still around. But they basically made up the whole safety deposit box BS. They have never published the supposed “outline” and Brian and Kevin J Anderson aka the hack admit that Omnius and Erasmus are there own creations, so how could they be the fucking real Daniel and Marty if they didnt dxist when Frank died. McDune is abomination. For fun you can read the Dune Encyclopedia which was endorsed by Frank though he refrained from calling it canon, it is obviously by an intellect with live and knowledge for the dune universe.

The first three are worth reading. The third one, less so than the first two.

[–] 0 pt

What about any Brian Herbert?

[–] 0 pt

Both.

The movie isn't great but it is worth the watch. It's just over two hours, not a huge investment.

Redux version ardvarcus suggested looks 3
