They had a seizure which I was able to deal with surprisingly because I've never had a deal with anything like that before. But then it got me thinking, what about CPR, could I do it correctly, would I be able to help somebody successfully? I've been looking at videos tonight on jewytube and it looks like the compressions have gone to 30 with two breaths, rinse repeat. But what I don't understand is I thought CPR was for if the heart stops not if there's irregular breathing? They just now check to see if the breathing is regular, if it's exasperated or clunky they say start CPR. I only thought you did it if there's no heartbeat? What say you first responders or EMT folks on here?

Never attempt to restrain anyone who is having an active seizure, unless they are in immediate danger of hurting themselves, i.e. falling off a cliff.

Never put anything into a persons mouth if they are having are having a seizure.

Do not give CPR to anyone having a seizure.

Only give CPR to a person with no Airway, Breathing, or Cardiac evidence.

If they started CPR when they had breathing, or a heart beating, they are idiots. The point of CPR is to provide profusion to the blood until ALS arrives.

Yeah the guy's wife was holding him and trying to hold his hands and I told her to let him go. He was bleeding everywhere, he'd cut his ear, but I thought he was bleeding out of his ear, I thought he had a brain injury or something. But then I realized that his eyes were dilated and he was foaming at the mouth and that's when I was like "oh he's having a seizure". I just rolled him over on his side, putting a firm pillow behind his back and I said to her don't touch him. He was on his bed. When I rolled him on his side he foamed like a cow does when they're about to eat something yummy. I was glad we got out the goo that was in his throat. I believe it was a oxygen depleted seizure. he's got sleep apnea really bad and they said that oxygen depletion can cause seizures. They being what I saw on jewTube. I was amazed to see them skip right over checking for a pulse and then going for the defibrillator and doing chest compressions after the shock. When I took CPR 30 years ago they made you make sure it was safe, check airways, swipe the mouth, and check the pulse. Because if he wasn't breathing you could breathe for him but they didn't want you to start pumping his chest because you could mess their hearts and ribs up, puncture a lung with a broken rib. I was surprised to see this changed.

I'm not an EMT, just a Dad of two grown adult kids with Epilepsy. Dealt with literally hundreds of seizures of all kinds for 30 years. You just roll them on their side incase they vomit and call 911, nothing else. If the seizure lasts beyond a few minutes it can be bad but normally they won't. Sometimes breathing literally stops and gets erratic and they can turn blue, my son clenched so hard he fractured his jaw. It's pretty traumatic to witness and actually started giving me ptsd for awhile. The brain resets and they can be good as new or be nauseous, headache and extremely tired for hours. If it's vaccine related heart issues, outa my league.

He has sleep apnea really bad according to his wife. So I was reading or listening on jewTube that it could be a reason for seizures the oxygen deprivation at least. When he came too he had no idea what happened and he was completely retarded for like an hour. He didn't want to go to the hospital but the wife made him go because it was the first time. He bit his tongue pretty bad. But I had remembered at least I thought I did that the priority was to keep him from choking. If he broke a tooth he broke a tooth, big deal. Reviewing the situation in my head there would have been no way to get anything in his mouth anyway.

Never ever put anything anywhere near a person's mouth during a seizure. That's an old pile of bullshit. They will not choke. Disorientation is normal. My son is a complete wack job for 30 - 60 minutes afterwards then boom he's back. The brain is literally resetting itself and depending on the severity or where it's located in the brain the after effects are unpredictable. He needs to see a doctor and have his brain tested. He could have any kind of neurological issue causing the seizure. It could be just watching tv but even then he needs to know that.

Yeah he was getting seizure medicine that the emergency room doctor prescribed him. I told him that some TV shows can trigger seizures that's why they have seizure warnings. He said that he didn't think he was going to go to the neurologist that they recommended to go to. Hopefully his wife can talk some sense into him. I don't really know them so it was kind of super awkward helping out in such an intimate way. I'm glad I was there however and they were too.

If you can keep track of how long it lasts that is helpful info for the EMTs or Dr.

The thing that stuck out for me the most on my last first aid course was that you don't perform CPR expecting someone to revive right then and there, you are merely adding oxygen into their lungs and manually pumping blood to spread that oxygen around to prevent brain death until they can be taken to a hospital and revived. The story they told us was of a firefighter who didn't have a proper seal on his mask and collapsed while fighting a fire. His friends carried him out and performed CPR on him for about 45 mins while they drove him to a hospital, when they got there the doctors didn't want to try anything as they were sure they he was dead if CPR didn't wake him for 45 mins. His friends insisted that the doctors try while never stopping the CPR until the doctors made the attempt, which worked.
