Authorities were always evil and corrupt. Authorities only effect the sheep because they follow the authority and that's in every generation. I've met many young people that are not brainwashed by all the bullshit. If someone is getting brainwashed by authority they can only blame themselves.
I have accepted that there are people who are too dumb to think for themselves. These kinds of people can change the authorities that they trust and listen to, though.

Example: Jehovah's Witnesses. That organization is all about dictating to people every detail they should think, and since they're an organization full of people willing to be subjected to that, all the JWs all over the world believe the same thing, and they think that is wonderful.
