I went in for a physical last week. Doc says I have hypothyroidism. I think he wants to start me on pills, which I hate. I feel fine. Just curious what other people have done and their experiences

Be very careful with those pills. As far as I'm aware once you get on them you have to take them for life, since they make your thyroid completely unable to produce it's own hormones. Very weird your Dr is so eager to start you on thyroid hormone pills before trying out all other options.

If I was you I would check my iodine levels, could be you have a deficiency that could cause underactive thyroid.

Had this exact same thing. Found iodine, problem totally resolved.

Thats only true if your thyroid is actually disfunctional. Healthy thyroids will eventually revert to producing hormones, it might take longer on certain people, however. Weaning off the medication works. The main issue is that its still tough to figure out who has a punctual issue or a chronic one.

Yep, this is common. Most hypothyroid is due to autoimmune issues. Get off bread and wheat products. It sucks, but you gotta do it. Gluten is bad and your body mistakes Gliadin protein as a foreign threat and attacks your thyroid. It also destroys your intestine lining which causes autoimmune issues.

Also, look into taking iodine supplement (sea kelp) + selenium.

My father had hypothyroidism. He didn't have symptoms in the beginning either. The only real concern with not getting it under control is that it can lead to other things, like heart problems. Mostly if you're predisposed to that sort of thing. I'd start with supplements and dietary changes before taking meds, though.

You may have Hashimoto's disease. Get your doctor to check for that. I'm going to go get it checked myself.

I know I don't have it -- I've never been anywhere near Hashimoto.

Someone else might have got it and it spread from there. A friend of a friend of a friend, etc...

Considering it's typically an auto-immune issue and the pills are just supplementing hormones your body should be producing but isn't, it's one of the more reasonable things to take pills for.

Hypothyroidism causes a slew of issues such as fatigue, digestion problems, and brittle hair, etc.

I keep hearing "greatest thing since sliced bread", seems like gluten and bread are over half our problems physically.

Maybe its because sourdough is no longer used. It would use the sugar present in the wheat (=gluten) to grow.

Well! I did a little research and you're right. Damn I keep learnin stuff.

It ties into your metabolism. My guess is yopu'll see an increased metabolism and fat burn like my sister. she was 20ish lbs overweight treated it and now people only tell her to eat more.

Look in Dr Eric Berg regarding thyroid issues. Don't take synthroid.

Thanks for the quick response. I do have auto immune issues with eczema and psoriasis. I’d rather try dietary changes and supplements before pills

Plants are poison, animals are food. Whatever is going on with our modern food supply it's entirely fucked up.

I recommend carnivore https://youtu.be/e56gVwMFVPw

This guy is a doctor who reads the research https://youtu.be/2J-YPkAIR08

Sorry to change the topic, but have you had any luck with the poriasis? About 10 years ago I developed a couple rings from Granuloma annulare and now I have small patches of psoriasis. A dermatolgist tried to put me on Otezla but I couldnt bring myself to taking a pill forever.

As others have intimated, check your iodine levels. Then find a new doc, preferably a holistic one, yours seems only interested in the symptoms not the cause and of course the kickback from big pharma.

Do you eat sugar, food with sugar added to it, or drink alcohol? If so, STOP. It's mostly caused by blood sugar imbalances.

Are you a fat ass? Eat a high protein, high fat, low carbohydrate diet with NO sugar or alcohol. Drink a lot of fluoride free water. No sugar water or diet drinks. Just fluoride free water. You'll lose the weight.

Take an Iodine, Zinc, and Selenium supplement starting immediately. Don't OD on the stuff, but take the daily recommended dose. Deficiencies in any of these three can cause it.

Make sure you aren't exposed to a lot of toxic chemicals, either in your food or environment.

If you have allergies or otherwise get body inflammation, figure out what's causing that and eliminate it. The latest fad is gluten, you could try cutting that out to see if it helps.

Taking prescribed drugs should be an absolute last resort until you do everything above. If your doctor doesn't recommend these things first, finding a new doctor is your #1 priority.
