Getting rather desperate- good friend is troubled and has disappeared. Drinking and it's winter, driving. Lots to worry about. I've been trying for hours to find a way to find them via phone location and it's all bogus- nothing works. I guess it's actually illegal to ping someone's phone via imei number; tried facebook and everything...any ideas from you tech folks would be greatly appreciated.

You mean like your response? Aint got nothing to offer then go neck yourself you incel pillow fucking piece of shit.

Did you end up hearing from them?

I deserve that. What you are asking for is rather impossible without forethought. Pretty much asking how to put a tracking device on something that has already been lost.

Hope they're alright.

No you didn't deserve that, I went too far but it was one of only a couple posts and I really needed help. I apologize.

My friend was found by the police, around 4 am passed out in a car- beaten up- in an abandoned parking lot. Most likely the family will put some sort of tracker on the phone and maybe one of the airpod devices on the car.

if you do some digging there are some websites out there that will supposidly do all the phone tracking for you under the name of "parental controls" or "employee safety tracking. some claim the person doesnt need apps installed or for them to click any links. the cheapest i found was about 15 dollars. i never did try to use any of them. my guess is that these companies are from china. hack your targets phone and steal their info and then target you as well.

Yeah I tried a couple of those sites. Used a vpn with temp email and a gift card. One site pulled up an accurate contacts list but no location so useless.

Report an Amber alert with a description of his car.

Or don't. I'm not sure there is a lot you could do for him, even if you did know his location.

He is either alright, or not.

Three words - rectal tracking suppositories.

some other apps show a users location, if they have the app, have the feature enabled and your friends on the app. Snapchat being one.

Do a reverse number lookup. If his location is set to on it will show where the phone is.

If you're legitimately concerned to the point that you get the cops involved, they very well may ping his cell and figure out his location.

This happened a couple of weeks ago: my fiancee's cousin married this shady dude a few months back. Anyhow, some shit happened and she (the cousin) got the cops involved to find him. She did this out of concern for the guy, to be clear. Not in the vein of she was "siccing the cops on him" or anything like that. Anyhow, the cops pinged his cell to get a location, and when a DPS trooper went to pull him over, the dude blew his own head off on the side of the road.

Larger point being, the cops can find your friend if he has his cell on him. The question is whether or not you really want them to.

I don't say that to blame my fiancee's cousin, to be clear. It wasn't her fault that the dude was shady, was doing shady shit, or that he killed himself. But at the same time, I wouldn't be surprised if she's somewhat blaming herself for all of it since the police interaction seemed to push him fully over the edge.

Point being, when someone is already mentally disturbed there's no telling what might give them that final push. On the other hand, getting the cops involved may very well save someone's life, too. It's a coin toss.

You aren't important enough for anyone with access to this information to allow you to have it. I'm not about to break the law to help you. The actual answer: yes, dozens of ways. With a caveat: you must matter.

Well, I am important enough but no I don't want to break the law. I did run across a way to do it but it involved a lot more than I could deal with at the time and time was of the essence.
