The aryan race was originally called indo-aryan. Race is a very broad term, and the geographic region of the indo-aryan race extended from the UK isles to northern africa to india. Rough borders were the Caucasus mountains and the Sahara. But the evolutionary path of people in distinct geographic regions have led to further speciation, and such differences can rightly be called ethnicities. Thus while Indians are of the same race as Europeans, they have a radically different ethnicity. The people of Northern India are ethnically distinct from the people of southern India. These differences accelerate the further a people get from a geographic region.

Buddhist writers of northern India described the southern Indians as “dark-skinned butchers”.

They also attributed dark skin to negative karma.
