When I was working at my previous corporate job my old boss thought I was an incompetent piece of shit and pretty much a good for nothing druggie . I had long hair and pretty much quiet quit years before because it was absolutely horrible to work there but it was close to my apartment and it paid well. We had a road race around campus and I signed up for it because why the fuck not. So the race starts and I hit it. It was a 5K and I finished 4th out of everybody. It was probably around 250 people. The boss was flabbergasted. His administrative Assistant looked at me and said "wow I can't believe you just did that". And my snarky reply was "yeah can you believe it? I might look like a bum but I'm actually in really good shape". She didn't know what to say to that. After that he treated me with a lot more respect because he could say that his department has athletes in it (another guy in our department finished second). I pretty much just thought 'fuck you, you piece of shit, leave me alone'. Then I proceeded to remain quiet quit for another 2 years before I left. Don't get me wrong, I did my job and did it well but I fucking hated everybody there except for my immediate department and two admins.
