I just want something that works and can guide me from Point A to Point B (would also like if it showed alternative ways in case of bad traffic or a toll road).

There's Open Street Maps or OsmAnd+. both are open source- not sure if they're free nor do I know if they're in the google store. The foss apk repositories such as fdroid or apkpure should have them.

OsmAnd is avail on the store. I really like it because it navigates without data. Also I can pre-download the maps for another country and able to get around there without first having to purchase a local sim card or turn on roaming.

You aren't going to get a map app that shows alternative routes in case of bad traffic without them tracking you.

I want an traffic app where they track everybody but me.

I am a field tech. I use Gmaps every day. I really dont like google tracking my day but it works. An alternative, as good or better would be nice.

Here

That was one I tried years ago that had quite good offline capabilities. Google maps invalidates your offline maps pretty regularly so you have to redownload them.

has a cell phone

worries about google maps

I mean I get them both separately but just deal with jewgle maps. All the FLOSS ones I've used are extremely bad and have fees eventually.

What ever happened to Waze?

Bought by Google.

Also way to "chatty.". It seems to want to be a social media app.

If you speed, you're an idiot not to run waze at least.

It would be funny if waze privately reported speeding habits to local police stations while also publicly allowing users to label speed traps.

Having been pulled over 46 times, I assure you, they are aware of my speeding habits.

This one? "The software was originally developed in Israel by Waze Mobile, a company founded by Israeli entrepreneurs Ehud Shabtai, Amir Shinar, and Uri Levine."

Google always takes the route with the least traffic

The App you are looking for is called Navigator Free. I also believe it could be under MapFactor You do not have to be online for the navigation to work and they update the app frequently. I believe it is the same as Tom Tom as they keep offering to use their map system. The app used to use Google Maps for the mapping system. But they got kicked off the platform. Probably because they were competition for Google. I have found the accuracy to be very good. But it does not give real-time traffic info.

Navier HUD is pretty decent. Not sure where it gets its maps, but so far it hasn't steered me wrong (no pun intended.)

It does not offer real-time updates based on traffic though.

I really tried to give MapQuest a go. Used it for almost a year. Then it got me lost in downtown Houston and I had to download Google maps. Was pretty disappointing.
