It seems we live with a lexicon of either if something isn't communist or socialist, which seems to be well defined, then it has to be capitalist. Which somehow doesn't seem to be well defined.

I was just scrolling through reddit and saw a post "We live in a capitalist society therefore blah blah". We DO NOT live in a capitalist society. This is annoying me beyond fuck to keep hearing / reading. However since we don't live in an outright socialist / communist economy, and since there is no other type of economy termed other than capitalist, it's harder to argue because 'normal' minds need a simple word to settle on.

I'm impressed with the answers. Basically, we all agree we all have a fraudulent economy. Our political system is the same. Capitalism sounds good to most people, but realize we don't actually have capital. We have the idea of capital, but the reality is we have nothing. Pretty much everything is a derivative where the underlying assets are fake. Our own currency used to be a gold derivative until Nixon took us off the gold standard in 1971. I can't think of any derivatives that have actual assets backing them.

Nothing can be well defined when it's fake. That would ruin the illusion.
