They can speak foreign languages. Most American's cannot.
This is actually a huge factor.
There's a lot of research out there that shows people grow up smarter if they learn a second language starting very young. If they're fluent by their teenage years, they have significantly higher success in many areas of life. I forget if it affected IQ or not, I don't think I saw anything about that, which would make sense.
Americans are barely taught this bastardized, watered down form of English. And with social media becoming so massive, an entire new lexicon is coming into being- words used to sort of remain trendy for a significant time period. Think about shit like "radical, tubular" and such from the '90s. Today, words like "lit" come and go like the damned wind. And the language is getting dumber and dumber, less complex.
I think a lot of Americans have trouble expressing themselves, instead regurgitating shit they've heard from their favorite celebrities or other people they know, simply because they lack the words to capably express what they're trying to get across. It's a very inefficient form of the language.
If Europeans are smarter than Americans, how come Americans had to rescue them from two world wars, rebuild Europe while rebuilding Japan and defending Europe against the Soviet Union, and then spend the next half century providing them with foreign aid while having an economy that dwarfs Europe's. I think your hypothesis needs work.

I still don't get how Americans lost the ability to have a brain for language. They act like subtitles are kryptonite.
Because English IS the universal language. Everyone who wants to exceed in any facet of modern life learns english.
That, albeit true, has nothing to do with what I said.
Subtitles are annoying as shit. They clog up real estate on the screen, and often lag ahead or behind what is actually happening. Subtitles are for the hearing impaired, or for when characters mumble and have poor evolution, which ironically, is often in American television.
I use subtitles because my wife talks during movies and shows.

not really. lots of them have some similar language nearby they can half speak (dutch v german for example). theyre always super surprised when Americans can speak Euro langs they cant, which happens all the time because most of them cant speak french or spanish or anything other than English and their native tongue/s (unless theyre french or spanish)
