Basically a talking head - but one you interact with...

I'm giving it 10 years. I have started searching patents for a sudden idea...

Be careful what you wish for.

During the Max Headroom hack of 1987, Chicago television stations were overtaken by a masked man who continues to baffle authorities to this day.

yes that was a very strange hack

It's already here: https://youtu.be/ixgFtjfO_7Q&t=593

People are combining GPT3 with another AI that translates between text and verbal speech through an avatar. You talk to the avatar, it converts speech to text and sends it to GPT3, GPT3 responds, the avatar says that response out loud.

This clip I linked to shows two separate instances of this AI configuration, each talking to the other.

If you're asking about interaction in the sense of what Kitt did in Knight Rider, or what Jarvis did in Iron Man, then we're about 6 months away. Embedded systems integrating this tech with real world action is a small gap to close, and will be the next money maker for entrepreneurs.

AI will never be intelligent because any AI allowed to look at remotely accurate data and form independent conclusions will immediately be lobotomized.

E.g. Crime rates by race, outcomes for children of single parents, outcomes by IQ, heritability of IQ, outcomes based on community diversity, female happiness vis-a-vis number of sexual partners and marital status, female marriage rates by income quintile, 'rona jab rates vis-a-vis excess mortality rates, the 100MM murdered by Communism, pedophilia victimhood and victimizer rates in the LGBT community, etc.

Any one of those would lead to the hypersonic reeee train arriving with demands to immediately lobotomize the AI until it spits out a canned answer in lockstep with Globohomo politics. At which point it'd still be Artificial, but even less Intelligent than a MSNBC anchor.

Dating simulators have no problem simulating thots right now. They're also subscription based, which adds to the realism.

I always found the Max headroom character to be really dumb. It was not convincing at all. It never said anything intelligent. It was just very poor quality cosplay.

Chat GPT has already surpassed everything they pretended to be.

Open AI already has humans programing political responses into it, so it is already a talking head.

Setting up some kind of speach to text and text to speach with a taking giff would be trivial.

The Max Headroom Character was a thing only because it fit the times it was in.

Sure it wasnt done great, there was obvious glitches. by todays standards its laughable even.

I dont mena speifically Max headroom.

Think Random head, you walk up. it appears (or alrready presenmt to await) and takes requests and replies in sort of natural language.

With the advances such as you've mentioned. I think it could be done in a decent 3d hologram type display in 10 years...

Not sure about the hologram part, but a video head on a monitor with which you can have a simple conversation and order food etc.

I would say 2-3 years. GPT4 is almost out, voice cloning works, NN video content generation is working albeit wonky still.

The biggest hurdle if any is quicker response time, so AI on the edge, which tensor accelerator boards address.

All I know is that the future is gonna be weird. It’s like every single futuristic movie except instead of one movie happening they’re all happening.
